First practice: Norris narrowly ahead of Antonelli

As the Brazilian GP weekend got under way at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Lando Norris was fastest in first practice. According to formula1.com, the McLaren driver set a 1:11.717, putting him 0.082 seconds clear of Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Max Verstappen was third, 0.236 seconds off the pace, followed by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

Several young drivers were in action in first practice, among them Leonardo Fornaroli at McLaren, Freddie Slater at Audi, Gabriele Mini at Alpine, Luke Browning at Williams, Dino Beganovic at Ferrari and Colton Herta in Sergio Pérez's car at the Cadillac F1 Team. The session was red-flagged after Slater stopped on track. According to formula1.com, Herta was still one point short of a super licence before the session. Motorsport.com reports that he secured it with this outing.

Second practice: Antonelli sets the pace

In the evening it was Antonelli who led the way. According to the-race.com and planetf1.com, the Mercedes driver clocked a 1:10.763, with Norris (+0.253 seconds) and Verstappen (+0.259 seconds) close behind. Russell, Oscar Piastri and Hamilton completed the top six. Nico Hülkenberg is listed without a lap time in second practice.

Home debut with a reprimand for Rafael Câmara

Rafael Câmara is making his Formula 1 debut at his home race. He is stepping up earlier than planned with the Haas F1 Team, with whom he has already signed for 2027. Haas had previously confirmed that Esteban Ocon will not race for the team again this year. Reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa is competing in the World Endurance Championship this weekend. Câmara's team-mate is Oliver Bearman.

In second practice, Câmara impeded Charles Leclerc at Turn 15. Leclerc was on a fast lap and had to take evasive action to avoid the Haas, putting a large part of his car off the track. The stewards therefore issued a reprimand. Impeding in practice normally only earns a warning. Here the stewards went a step further because Câmara had moved onto the racing line despite several radio messages. According to grandepremio.com, the stewards described the situation as "clearly dangerous". There is no grid penalty.

What's next on Saturday

Final practice starts today at 15:30, with qualifying at 19:00 (both German time). The race starts on Sunday at 18:00. Antonelli leads the drivers' championship on 380 points, ahead of Verstappen (261) and Hamilton (259). In the constructors' championship, Mercedes are 126 points clear of Ferrari. You can find all the numbers in the standings and the schedule in the calendar.
