F1 today: Camara's debut, Hamilton's 400th GP, mourning for Jones
Ahead of the Brazilian GP, Formula 1 mourns Alan Jones, Haas turns to Rafael Camara and Hamilton is set for his 400th Grand Prix.

Formula 1 mourns Alan Jones
The 1980 world champion has died. As formula1.com reports, Alan Jones passed away three days after his 80th birthday. In 1980 the Australian won the team's first drivers' title with Williams. He went on to race for Arrows and the American Haas team of the time. He ended his Formula 1 career at the end of 1986. He later raced touring cars in Australia and commentated on Formula 1 on television.
Haas: Rafael Camara makes his debut at Interlagos
At the Brazilian GP, Brazilian Rafael Camara will drive for Haas alongside Oliver Bearman. Haas had previously announced that Esteban Ocon will not race for the team again this season. According to autosport, this followed a dispute in Mexico. In Mexico, reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa stepped in and scored a point on his debut. This weekend he is racing for Toyota in the World Endurance Championship finale. According to formula1.com, Camara, who has already signed with Haas for 2027, wants to focus on what he can control ahead of his home race. Who will drive in the final three races is still open, according to autosport.
Hamilton ahead of his 400th Grand Prix
For Lewis Hamilton, the race in São Paulo will be his 400th Grand Prix, according to formula1.com. At media day, however, the main topic was his battle with Charles Leclerc in Mexico. After the start the two Ferrari drivers ran side by side, and Hamilton dropped behind Max Verstappen. Hamilton wants to discuss it with the team. The two have not yet spoken, as Leclerc had travelled home for the birth of his first child. A single conversation would not solve everything, Hamilton said, “but it is important”.
Bottas relaxed despite reports about Herta
At Cadillac, Valtteri Bottas has not yet been confirmed for 2027 because the team has so far not taken up a contract option. According to formula1.com, Bottas nevertheless says he expects to stay. The team has told him it does not want to change anything. He thinks it makes sense that Colton Herta is currently collecting super licence points, as it means Herta can be on standby as a back-up.
